THE ARTIST
Lola is the artist behind your new favorite mobile sculpture. She is the founder and painter of Pynkmantis, an independent Cultural Popart House in Queens, NY.
Her practice moves between original drawing, painting, hand-painted leather works and studies of the culture that shaped her visual language.
The work examines authorship, feminity, memory, social expectations, sovereignty, adult x play and the decision to look or behave differently without asking for permission to be understood.
I am Dominican by birth. Artistic by nature and she dances to the beat of her own drum.
Art has always tempted me, following me around like a Halo. I attended an excellent Art program at Cooper Union School of Art in NYC as a young teen, was accepted to Parsons School of Design but instead followed my oldest sister's footsteps and went to Baruch College for Business. However, all the paths have led me back to my Heart's Desires: Art and Fashion!
A painting may remain on a wall.
A Burner is a mobile sculptural artifact.
It travels with its owner. It's chosen. It behaves like armor. A chosen extension of how she wants to occupy space. Both belong to the same practice.
Is it a:
Handbag? Painting? Sculptural object? Fashion? Accessory? Collector Piece? Street object? Artifact? Armor?
YES.
